Bring On The Black Cats!

Black cats hold a very special place in fiction and mythology. They represent mystery, wisdom, and beauty all at the same time! These special kitties have fascinated humans throughout history.

Long ago, the stories about black cats were told by word of mouth. They praised cats as gods in Ancient Egypt and feared them as cohorts of the Devil in the middle ages. Then black cats made their way into written literature. They have been represented as heroes, villains, and as a foreshadowing of things to come. Now black cats have made it onto the big and small screens. They both terrify us and make us laugh. All of the symbolism they’ve gathered over the years has followed them.

To celebrate these melanistic kitties, here is a short list of black cats found in fictional books, television, and film! It’s a great time to check out one of these works of art and get your fill of great feline characters.
