Cats don’t want to stand in litter box full of their own urine and excrement. Who can blame them? A dirty litter box smells bad, can make them dirty, and is full of bacteria that could get them sick. That makes scooping the litter box one of the necessary evils of cat ownership – or does it? PetSafe®’s ScoopFree® Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box can do all of the dirty work for you.

Manna is ready to try a litter box that scoops itself!

Like most people, I’m not fond of scooping the litter box. Besides the fact that scooping clumps of cat feces and urine is a smelly, messy job, the dust from the litter irritates my skin. That’s why I decided to try the ScoopFree® Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box from PetSafe®. Everything that comes in the box for The ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box from PetSafe.

The ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box from PetSafe is a convenient new system for handling a cat’s waste. The system comes with the uncovered litter box, a rake, a waste trap lid, a litter tray with cover, a bag of premium blue crystal cat litter, and a 10 ft (3.05 m) AC adapter cord. Straight out of the box, it only takes about 2 minutes to set up.

A sensor inside the ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box detects when your cat uses the litter box. When your cat has been out of the litter box for 20 minutes, the self-cleaning automatic rake cleans the entire litter box and scoops waste into the waste trap. You can tell when the litter tray needs to be changed because the premium blue crystal cat litter will begin to turn green.

5 Big Benefits of PetSafe®’s ScoopFree® Litter Box

My husband and I have been really happy with the ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box from PetSafe. We’ve found at least 5 big reasons why we would recommend this litter box to other cat owners.

Dexter was proud to pose with his new litter box!

    No more scooping by hand.
We don’t have to chip and chisel stinky cat litter clumps anymore! The ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box handles all of the messy work by itself. It is far more sanitary as we don’t get cat waste on our hands or drop any of it on the floor around our home.

  2. Changing the litter is easy and quick.
It takes about 1 minute to completely change the cat litter in this litter box. All you have to do is lift the litter box, slide the used litter tray out, slide the new tray in, and put the litter box back down into place. The used litter tray can be thrown away in its entirety.
  3. Easy to carry lightweight cat litter.
Litter trays for the ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box are sold complete with premium blue crystal cat litter. The litter trays are super light! I think my purse weighs more than one of these litter trays filled with litter. My husband and I were very pleased with how easy they were to carry around compared to traditional cat litter containers. We found the litter trays at PetSmart, but they can be easily ordered and delivered to your door direct from PetSafe’s website or by using the ScoopFree Amazon Dash Button.
  4. Great odor control.
There are 2 components to this litter box system that help to control odors. First, the premium blue crystal cat litter is 5 times more effective than clay or clumping cat litters. Second, your cat’s waste is automatically scooped into a closed waste tray that keeps odors locked inside.
  5. Happier cats
Cats will find a way to go potty. If they aren’t happy with their litter box, your cats will leave you presents elsewhere in your home. Some cats, like my Manna, prefer that the litter box is scooped more than once per day. That is tough to keep up with! Since the ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box scoops the box after every visit, it is always clean to kitty standards.

The premium blue crystal cat litter is long lasting! With my 2 cats, I have found that our litter trays last about 2 weeks before they need to be changed. PetSafe recommends that you replace the litter tray every 20-30 days if you have 1 cat, every 10-15 days if you have 2 cats, or every 7-10 days if you have 3 cats.

Dexter checks out the instructions for changing the litter tray.

As much as I love the thought of a self-cleaning litter box, I wasn’t sure what my cats were going to think of it at first. I had 2 main concerns:

  • Will my cats like the premium blue crystal cat litter?
  • Will my cats be afraid of the automatic rake that scoops the litter box?

My cats are used to using a clay litter. They have done fine with transitioning to a few other types of litter in the past, but I could not mix their current litter with the premium blue crystal cat litter to help transition them in this case. Only the premium blue crystal litter can be used with the PetSafe ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box. I was pleasantly surprised when Manna and Dexter both took to the premium blue crystal cat litter right away! It didn’t bother them at all.

Manna made sure that we were not missing any pieces of the system!

At first, Manna and Dexter were a little afraid of the automatic rake. It makes a soft sound as it sifts through the litter box. The first time the automatic rake began moving, both of the cats ran over to the litter box to watch it with big wide eyes and puffy tails. Dexter even batted at it and ran away.

Fortunately, within a day or two, the fear of the automatic rake became a curiosity. Both cats began using the litter box again. Now when the automatic rake does its job, the cats still like to watch, but they seem more fascinated by it. I think they are trying to figure out what makes that happen. If Dexter could talk, I think he would say “Mommy! The litter box stole my poop again. It was awesome. You should have seen it!”
