Looking for an easy way to walk your cat? A Wacky Paws pet sling could be just what you need. The durable, easy-to-use design allows you to take your cat with you anywhere you go. Manna and Dexter are loving their Wacky Paws pet slings. Let me show you how I am using these pet slings to allow my cats to explore the world with me.
Why Use a Pet Sling?
There are at least 2 great reasons to use a pet sling. First, some cats love to go outside with their humans but don’t really want to do the “walking” part. A pet sling allows you to take your cat with you wherever you are going even if your cat isn’t an enthusiastic walker.
Manna is a good example of this first kind of cat. She loves to hang out with me, enjoys socializing with other people, and is curious about everything. However, if I take her outside on a leash, she just finds a sunny spot and lays down. Even treats don’t convince her to do much walking. A pet sling gives her a sense of safety and security within which she can explore without any of the work.
The second reason to use a pet sling is that you want to keep your cat close to you and contained while you are outdoors. Dexter is a very enthusiastic walker. He wants to look in every nook and cranny of everything he sees. When I have him in a pet sling, Dexter can see everything, but I don’t have to chase him around.
How the Wacky Paws Pet Sling Works
The Wacky Paws pet sling is a lightweight, soft-sided pet carrier that you can wear. Your cat will sit comfortably on the front side of your body where you can see and pet them easily. It is available in small, large, and x-large sizes. The features of the Wacky Paws pet sling include:
-
Breathable air mesh material
The air mesh material of the Wacky Paws pet sling allows you and your pet to remain cool and comfortable, even on hot summer days. - Adjustable shoulder strap
The wide shoulder strap can be easily adjusted to help the sling to sit where you want it to on your body. It grips your shoulder so that the sling stays still and gives your cat the smoothest ride possible. - Attached leash
Attached inside the Wacky Paws pet sling is a short leash that can be hooked onto your cat’s harness. This helps you to stay in control of your cat if they try to get out of the sling to explore during your outing. - Adjustable area for your cat’s head
Your cat’s head can peek out of the Wacky Paws pet sling through an opening controlled by a drawstring. This lets your cat see, hear, and smell everything on your outing. - A Sturdy zipper
Your cat is enclosed in the Wacky Paws pet sling via a sturdy, easy-to-use zipper. The zipper can be secured using the small piece of velcro located near your cat’s head area.
Once your cat is securely enclosed in the Wacky Paws pet sling, you are ready for an outdoor adventure! To learn more about Wacky Paws, visit their website or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or Youtube.
Taking a Walk with Manna and Dexter
Going for a walk with Manna and Dexter always starts with making sure that both cats are in their harnesses. I need to have a way to control their exploration of the world. I don’t want Dexter to run into the street chasing a bird! The Wacky Paws pet sling has been a great option for keeping my cats safe.
The Wacky Paws pet sling is very simple and easy-to-use. Getting the cats inside the pet sling is a bit awkward because the cats don’t understand what I am trying to get them to do. Still, I am able to get each cat in their Wacky Paws pet sling within a few minutes. Once they are tucked away inside the sling, the cats appear to be happy and comfortable. Neither one of them fights with me about staying inside the sling.
My husband and I were both surprised at how lightweight the Wacky Paws pet slings feel. The shoulder strap is very comfortable and it helps to distribute the weight of the cat evenly across your body. Dexter weighs a little more than 10 lbs (4.6 kg) and I could carry him in the pet sling very easily. He feels lighter than he usually does when I pick him up!
I chose the large size pet sling for both of my kitties. Both cats have enough room to hide completely inside the pet sling and to move around. Dexter likes to turn himself around so that his back is at the bottom of the pet sling and his legs are touching the top. Manna will bring her head inside the sling and “disappear” if a barking dog gets too close to us. As soon as the dog is gone, she pops her head back out and continues to explore the world.
Manna, Dexter, Dave, and I used our new Wacky Paws pet slings to go for a walk around the lake on a beautiful, sunny day. It was 90 °F (33° C) and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I thought that we would be too hot to stay outside for very long, but I was wrong. We were outside for nearly an hour and all of us were warm but comfortable. The air mesh material really helps!
To add to the humor of our walk, we were approached by a flock of Canadian geese. I think they thought that the pet slings were full of food! The whole family came up out of the water to greet us while we were standing at the edge of the lake. Manna and Dexter got a real treat getting to see these big birdies up close!

We think it’s pretty cool that Dexter likes being in the sling. Though how he stayed in there when he saw the ducks is beyond us.
Looks like you all had fun! We have goslings in the park across the way … I bet Dexter would love that!
We agree with DashKitten. This is an excellent review. I love your video! I’ve wondered about getting a sling for the girls!
Great review, that is cool.
Here’s my question: is the pet sling waterproof? lol My cats aren’t overly thrilled about the prospect of going outdoors (I’m trying to get them used to the idea), and sometimes they get so nervous that they pee in their carrier or pet stroller. I love the idea of the pet sling, though! I was worried Misha would jump out of it, but it’s good to know there’s a harness clip to keep her from jumping out.
Wow, how cool that you kitties got to see geese up close on your walk! My Wacky Paws sling comes in really handy for my therapy cat duties – when we’re working with a dog team, or I’m somewhere where it’s not convenient for me to be on my leash, I can go in my sling. At pet stores, I can explore on my leash, but if my human needs to hurry up and check out, or there’s a big dog we don’t know, she just scoops me up and puts me in my sling and we are good to go.
We love our Wacky Paws sling. Sophie and Kylo Ren enjoy riding around in it, and I’m please to say that after much practice, I have perfected the art of getting them inside by myself in record time! It used to take me and my husband to get them in. MOL. Glad you guys are enjoying your slings! We love seeing other kitties outside exploring and enjoying the great outdoors!
That looks really cool!
This looks like a great option for my Karma-Kat! Glad to discover this from you, thanks.
Can you move around easily in this while you work?
I am a country gal and when I took in my baby Dorthy when she was a kitten [she was neglected by her mother when very young] she kept getting lost while outside [well she thought she was, even though I could see her] so I would just stick her in the front of my overalls while I work and walked. Now she is almost two years old, and as you can imagine there is starting to not be enough room for the both of us! If I don’t pick her up she will follow me around crying. She truly believes I am her mother and has to be with her Mommy. She is really good at staying in, even when I am bending over she will just hang out in there.
This is a really nice sling, what a great way to safely get the kitties outside to enjoy the fresh air & sunshine. Great video!
