A Thankful Heart Is a Happy Heart

Thanksgiving is a great time for reflection on what is great in our lives. Cats are often misunderstood as being selfish and ungrateful, but this is not the case. Cats are grateful for a lot of things! They just don’t show it with a wet sloppy tongue or by telling you what an awesome human you are. Cats are subtle and dignified. Us humans are just not always dialed in correctly to see it. In a way, we tend to represent the qualities that we  project onto cats.

Cats express their gratefulness in the choices they make. A cat may choose to sleep on a piece of clothing or a blanket that you have used. This is a sign of affection and gratefulness for the relationship they have with you – your scent brings them comfort. They may also choose to cuddle with you, let their guards down and play around you, or accept food from you. It’s not selfishness, it’s about the relationship you have with your cat. If your cat does these things, they are thankful for you. Don’t forget to let your cat know you are thankful for him/her too this holiday season!
