Small & Silly Kitties
The Singapura cat breed may hold the Guinness World Record for the smallest domestic cat breed, but they are not short on personality. Playfulness, curiosity, and intelligence are 3 of their most prominent qualities. They stay playful all of their lives! These kitties absolutely love to interact with their humans and “help” them with all their activities.
Many of the Singapura’s physical characteristics are shared with the Abyssinian. They have the same agouti pattern in their coat (individual hairs with alternating bands of color). However, the sepia color pattern is more related to the Burmese cats. The Singapura’s coat has a soft ivory base color that blends into a warm brown. They also have large ears and big round eyes that make them very distinct.
The early days of the Singapura cat breed brought a lot of controversy among cat fanciers. The original breeder of the Singapuras told conflicting stories about where her original cats came from and how the breed was started. This lead other breeders to believe that she was making up stories to increase the monetary value of her cats. No matter what the real story was, the Singapuras were the real winners of the argument. Other breeders began their own breeding programs and Singapuras have been a healthy, happy breed ever since.
