Brown is Beautiful!
The Havana Brown cat breed is known for its rich, beautiful, chocolate brown coat. Not only does that coat look wonderful, but it feels wonderful too! It is short, dense, and plush – just like a mink coat. These medium sized cats also have a unique face. Their muzzle is said to look like a lightbulb or a corncob. The face itself is wider at the top than at the bottom and the whisker pads are round and distinct.
It is possible that this breed has existed for hundreds of years. The Cat Book of Poems from ancient Siam (now Thailand) describe an all-brown cat with green eyes as being able to protect its owners from evil. There is also a mention of all brown cats coming from Siam to London, England for the first cat shows in the late 1800’s. The official start of the Havana Brown breed was actually in the 1950’s when a group of English cat breeders became determined to create and all-brown cat breed. The breeds they used to create the Havana Brown were the Siamese, the Burmese, the Domestic shorthair, and the Russian Blue. Today, the Havana Brown is a rare, but beautiful cat breed.
